The People
To the people and businesses in Florida, the CAFTA countries are hardly foreign. They are, in fact, more than just neighbors. To much of the Florida population, they are family. Nearly 3.8 percent of the Latino population of Florida, almost 137,000 is from the Dominican Republic, the fourth largest in the U.S. Another 11 percent, 400,000 of the Latino population of Florida is from Central America. Of the total Central American population in the United States, 12 percent live in Florida. Combined with other Spanish speakers, about four million Floridians speak the language of the CAFTA countries—an invaluable business asset.
Florida’s bi-lingual population, cultural and family connections to the Dominican Republic and Central America, represent an important resource for any company planning to do business in the CAFTA countries.
